Blackburn Royal Infirmary was originally opened in 1865 as the Blackburn and East Lancashire Royal Infirmary. It relied upon donations until 1948, when it became an NHS hospital. Over the years various sections have been added to the hospital, from the War Memorial Wing through to the somewhat ugly looking ward building and the A+E. Many medical services were available at BRI aswell as a training facility. Blackburn Royal Infirmary closed in 2006. Back to Hospitals and Asylums
