Mansfield General Hospital served the people for decades before it eventually closed it's doors for the last time in 1992. Services were transferred to King's Mill Hospital. Sat surrounded by houses, it was with a big grin, and a bit of frustration that we circled the hospital looking for a way in without attracting too much attention. We got in of course and it was fun. Having been closed for 14 years and being situated in the middle of a city, I was somewhat suprised when I discovered that most the damage was natural dereliction. Not only that but there are quite a bit of items and paperwork left over from when the hospital was open. It all added a certain something to the place that made it a bit more interesting. Walking up the stairs we could hear voices. Was it Joe? No, he was behind me... A quick glance round the corner reveals a radio. Another comedy security measure I guess, up there with the scream mask in the window, fake dog poo on the floor and all those posters saying that dogs are running around inside. Then there was the TV. For 14 years, this TV could apparently be seen playing in the window. It certainly made the whole thing a bit surreal. You don't really expect to see that sort of thing in a hospital closed for 14 years. Anyway, as it got dark, we headed out, happy that we had got round a large chunk of the hospital and had a good time. Back to Hospitals and Asylums
