As this is my local I felt obliged to get into this one. The Lancaster Moor Hospital originally opened in 1816 with additional buildings being added on in later years. Toward the end of the hospital's service it was to be used as an overflow for the Lancaster Infirmary aswell as treating those with mental illness. This carried on until it was eventually closed along with many other asylums up and down the country in favour of Care in the Community type systems. The original hospital building has now been converted into flats yet across the road the rest remains left empty. Inside the empty part it is stripped out with very little to see. Such tight security for an empty building. Back to Hospitals and Asylums
