Built in the 1840's for the Ellys family, Nocton Hall later became part of the military Hospital situated next door. In WW1, The hospital was handed over the the US forces for treatment of the wounded and then, in 1919, bought up again and turned into a RAF Hospital. It remained this way until 1943 when US forces took over the site again as a hospital. After the War, the RAF took back Nocton and up until 1983,Nocton Hall served as a Hospital for the RAF. In 1984, The US leased the site yet again after the RAF had vacated the site and continued to put the hospital to use up until 1995 where it was finally abandoned. The Hall itself was then used as a care home for a short period of time but this didn't last. Arson has taken it's toll on the Hall now. It was such a shame to see the Hall gutted by fire yet still, despite being little more than a skeleton, the Hall was an impressive sight. There was more than meets that eye in that place if you looked. The RAF hospital behind was stripped off anthing that could be sold or reused yet still had a certain something about them despite being a unifrom pattern all the same layout. It was the little things that made the site what it is. Like the ropes hanging by the tree, the hand painted signs and even the overgrown paths.Back to Hospitals and Asylums
